Have you ever noticed the Exclusive Cruises logo? What is it? What does it mean? 

People often say that a great idea came to them in their sleep. Well, that is exactly what happened to the co-founder of Exclusive Cruises. 

" The name came to me in my sleep one night, like a bolt of lightening" said co-founder Francesco Camperlingo. 

"I wanted to something clean and easy to remember, that represents the service that we offer, so the word Exclusive was perfect."

But what does the logo mean? The logo is the shape of three waves, symbolizing the Mediterranean Sea. The waves form the letter "E" which symbolizes "Exclusive". 

Simple and subtle, the logo is distinctive- just like Exclusive Cruises. 

The Gardens of Augustus

The gardens of Augustus are botanical gardens on the island of Capri, originally built in the early 20th century by the German industrialist Friedrich Alfred Krupp.

Named for the late Roman emperor Augustus,the gardens are built high up on the island and boast a wonderful view of the Mediterranean Sea. Attached to the gardens is an extremely windy road called Via Krupp which leads down to Marina Piccola. Unfortunately this unique road has been closed due to falling rocks (Capri is an island of limestone, so there is always a threat of falling rock).

 It is a beautiful garden and one of the many few free attractions, so it tends to get crowded. We recommend going early in the morning to beat the crowds.

Boat Charter to Positano and Nerano from Capri

It’s safe to say that everyone knows about Capri- It’s high end boutiques, colorful villas and five star hotels. Capri is the island to see and be seen, to soak into a Mediterranean paradise and create a holiday full of chicness and relaxation.

One of the most popular past times while on holiday in Capri is to charter a boat and explore the area- discover grottos around the island, stop to swim, enjoy the day and more.

However, another great excursion is to head straight towards the Amalfi Coast. Stop to swim around Li Galli Islands-a set of private islands off the coast of Positano where the legendary Ulysses heard the seducing song of the sirens. This little archipelago of islands is privately owned and rented out to guests who want a low profile with a high budget. Although one cannot step foot onto the island, he or she can swim in the middle and enjoy the seductive views.

After a refreshing swim, on to Positano to shop and take colorful photos! Positano’s reputation is similar to Capri, with shopping, luxury hotels and a VIP atmosphere. After a fun visit, one of the coolest things to do is get back on the boat and cruise over to Nerano, a small fishing village nearby. This beautiful and unpretentious stretch of beach is home to some of the best, mouthwatering restaurants on the coastline. The boat will dock directly on one of the small buoys while a tender from the restaurant comes to meet you and take you to shore. Sit outside and dine on fresh seafood, pasta, local wine and dessert. It is one of the most relaxing and serene experiences….not to be missed!

Once lunch is over and bellies are full, enjoy a leisurely boat ride back to the island of Capri under the soft light of the afternoon sunshine.  This is one of our all time favorite days.

What is the Blue Grotto in Capri?

HISTORY:

Many people ask us to explain a bit more about the Blue Grotto-the history and what makes it is special. 

The history of the Blue Grotto dates back to the Roman times, when the Roman Emperor Tiberius allegedly used it as his private bath house during his retirement on the island. Ancient Roman statues were even found there! 

For years, the grotto was avoided by locals, thought to be cursed until a fisherman ventured in with German novelist and tourist August Kopisch. Kopisch subsequently included the Blue Grotto in his next novel,  Entdeckung der blauen Grotte auf der Insel Capri in 1838. Many people claim that after this novel was published, Capri and the Blue Grotto sprung into the limelight as a must-see destination. 

The Blue Grotto is now one of the most sought after sites on Capri. 

  

WHY IS IT SO BRIGHT?

The sunlight enters the cave through an opening located directly under the cave's mouth. This limits the amount of light that enters the cave at any given moment, causing the bright blue effect, which seeps through the rock crevices. 

VISITING:

• The grotto may close due to weather because if there are high waves they will cover the entrance of the cave.  
• Tickets cost €13, to be paid directly at the entrance
• Wait time can range anywhere between 1-2 hours and time in the cave is about 5 minutes
• Visiting the cave is optional and of course not required when purchasing a private speedboat cruise with Exclusive Cruises.
